High Point University Club Sports

About Intercollegiate Club Sports

Intercollegiate Club Sports at High Point University (HPU) provides students with the opportunity to compete at a high level while engaging in a transformational, student-centered athletic experience. As an extension of HPU’s Division I Athletic Department, the program delivers a collegiate athletic environment that emphasizes character development, leadership, and life-skills acquisition through sport.

HPU’s Intercollegiate Club Sports program is one of the fastest-growing competitive offerings on campus. The program currently features 24 sports, 39 teams, and engages 900 student-athletes, with long-term expansion plans already underway. These teams compete in conference, regional, and national tournaments and train in state-of-the-art athletic facilities that mirror the standards and expectations of HPU’s NCAA Division I programs.

Intercollegiate Club Sports were strategically elevated beginning in 2025. This initiative was launched to meet the growing national demand for competitive sports opportunities amid major shifts in the collegiate athletics landscape—including the transfer portal, NIL changes, and reductions in traditional roster opportunities. HPU recognized the need to provide an elite, structured, competitive pathway for student-athletes seeking both high-level play and HPU’s holistic educational environment.

The program is grounded in HPU’s mission to deliver a values-based education that equips students for life. Intercollegiate Club Sports not only foster competitive excellence but also empower students through teamwork, accountability, leadership, and personal growth. HPU’s club teams have already demonstrated significant success, including conference championships in ice hockey and repeated championship performances from programs like baseball and men’s golf. These achievements reflect the high standards and competitive depth of the student-athletes representing the purple Panthers.

Students interested in joining Intercollegiate Club Sports can connect with program leadership, attend team interest meetings, or submit an interest form through HPU’s online “get recruited” recruitment portal. Whether students are continuing a lifelong sport, exploring competitive athletics for the first time, or looking for hands-on experience working in the athletic department, HPU provides a welcoming, structured, and highly competitive environment designed to enhance the overall student experience.

Vision & Initiatives of Intercollegiate Club Sports

Vision Statement

Intercollegiate Club Sports at High Point University champions the values of a God, Family, Country institution—cultivating an environment where student-athletes grow in faith, character, service, and competitive excellence.

Our vision is rooted in the foundational principles that define High Point University. We believe athletics is more than competition—it is a platform to develop leaders who honor God, strengthen their families and communities, and serve their nation with integrity. Through sport, we prepare students for lives of meaning, purpose and impact.

Strategic Initiatives

1. Elevate Expectations

Intercollegiate Club Sports is committed to setting a new standard for what club-level collegiate athletics can be. We challenge our student-athletes to pursue excellence in every dimension of their experience—academics, competition, leadership, and personal growth.

Elevating expectations means:
  • Competing at a high level with professionalism and discipline.

  • Training and preparing in a manner that reflects HPU’s values.

  • Demonstrating sportsmanship, accountability, and resilience.

  • Embracing the responsibility of representing High Point University with pride.

Excellence is not accidental. It is cultivated daily through a championship mindset.

2. Grow the Game

Intercollegiate Club Sports exists to expand athletic opportunity—not limit it. By offering more competitive pathways and adding new teams, we create space for more students to compete, lead, and thrive.

Growing the game means:
  • Increasing participation opportunities across a wide range of sports.

  • Providing coaching, resources, and administrative support that elevate each program.

  • Building competitive schedules that challenge our teams at conference, regional, and national levels.

  • Helping each sport flourish by supporting long-term sustainability and growth.

This initiative reflects HPU’s commitment to innovation, expansion, and meeting the evolving needs of today’s student-athletes.

3. Cultivate Community

At HPU, we believe people come first—and Intercollegiate Club Sports is designed to foster a strong sense of belonging, connection, and family within each team and across the entire program.

Cultivating community means:
  • Building a culture where teammates support each other on and off the field.

  • Encouraging service, volunteerism, and engagement with the broader HPU and High Point communities.

  • Strengthening the relationship between ICS programs, the athletic department, alumni, and fans.

  • Celebrating traditions, honoring excellence, and creating an environment where every athlete feels valued.

Community is the heart of who we are. It’s what transforms a team into a family and an experience into a legacy.

Shaping Leaders Through Sport

The vision and initiatives of Intercollegiate Club Sports embody the unique spirit of High Point University—a place committed to values, character, and excellence. By Elevating Expectations, Growing the Game, and Cultivating Community, we prepare our athletes not only to compete, but to lead; not only to achieve, but to serve; and not only to win, but to grow into the extraordinary individuals they are called to be.
