The High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports program announced the addition of Matt McCarthy as its Interim Women’s Basketball Coach. McCarthy, who has over a decade of head coaching experience, has established championship caliber programs throughout the course of his career.
 
McCarthy is a three-time Coach of the Year honoree in both the Piedmont Athletic Conference of Independent Schools (PACIS) and the Triad Athletic Conference (TAC). Additionally, he has led multiple all-star events and served on several state seeding committees. Through his coaching, he has developed players who continued their collegiate careers at Elon, UNC Greensboro, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia, and a variety of NCAA Division II and III programs.
 
McCarthy is familiar with High Point, serving as head coach from 2013-19 at Wesleyan Christian Academy, where he guided the Trojans to three North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) Final Four appearances, a 2017 State Runner-Up finish, and the 2018 NCISAA 3A State Championship.
 
Prior to his position at Wesleyan, McCarthy spent six seasons at Calvary Day School, establishing a foundation of competitive excellence.
 
Beyond basketball, Coach McCarthy is deeply committed to family and community. He has been married to his wife, Miriam, for nearly 25 years and is the father of four boys. He also serves as lead pastor of City Light Church.
