Jeff Brubaker was named as a Senior Advisor and Strategist for the High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports (ICS) ice hockey programs on Monday, August 10th. 

Brubaker brings decades of experience at the highest levels of hockey to High Point University, providing the Panthers with a valuable resource as the ICS hockey programs continue to elevate expectations on-and-off the ice. His extensive background as both a professional player and coach will allow him to provide strategic insight into program development, recruiting, competitive preparation and the creation of a sustainable championship-level culture.

Brubaker played eight seasons in the NHL between 1979 and 1989, appearing in 178 games along the way. He tallied 16 goals, nine assists and 25 points during his NHL career, which included stints with the Hartford Whalers, Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, N.Y. Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. 

Brubaker also played professionally in the World Hockey Association (nine seasons), Ontario Hockey League (two), Central Hockey League (one) and International Hockey League (one) after beginning his career in 1974-75 with the St. Paul Vulcans of the Midwest Junior Hockey League. Among those leagues he combined to appear in 731 games, netted 178 goals, dished out 210 career assists and was responsible for 388 points. 

The Hagerstown, Md., native began his head coaching career in 1989-90, leading the Greensboro Monarchs to the ECHL’s Riley Cup Championship in their inaugural season. Brubaker spent six seasons with the franchise, winning 211 games along the way, before taking over the Jacksonville Lizard Kings in 1995-96.

After collecting 130 victories as the head coach for Jacksonville, San Antonio and Tallahassee, Brubaker returned to the Triad in 1999-00 to when he was named as head coach of the Greensboro Generals. He added 65 more wins to his coaching resume over three seasons, including two in Greensboro and one with Asheville, where he spent one season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. 

Having experienced professional hockey both as a player and a coach, Brubaker brings a unique perspective to his new role with the Panthers’ hockey programs. His focus will support player development to a high level and build successful programs.
