High Point University Club Sports

Melody Emerson

Melody Emerson was named Assistant Coach of the High Point University Club Golf team in January 2026. Emerson brings a strong passion for the game along with a supportive and encouraging presence that emphasizes confidence, composure and enjoyment of competition. Her approach focuses on creating a positive team culture while helping players develop both their skills and their mindset on the course.

Emerson began playing golf as a teen and competed during high school. She has participated in charitable tournaments and enjoys the competitive challenge golf provides. A longtime admirer of Tiger Woods, Emerson attended the 2015 Wyndham Championship, where she witnessed firsthand the physical toll injuries were taking on Woods. After completing his round, she observed him being carefully assisted to his car, a moment that underscored the severity of the challenges he was facing at the time.

The following spring, while attending the 2016 Masters Tournament, she remembers reflecting on whether Woods would ever return to championship form. In 2019, Emerson had the opportunity to attend Masters Sunday and was on the 18th green as Woods completed one of the most memorable comeback victories in the sport’s history—an experience that reinforced her appreciation for perseverance, resilience and belief in the process.

In addition to her role with club golf, Emerson serves as an Instructor of Strategic Communication at High Point University, where she teaches courses in public relations, persuasion, crisis communication and media strategy. She has worked in the communication field for over 15 years and previously owned and operated a Pure Barre fitness studio, bringing experience in leadership, motivation and community-building to her coaching style. Emerson is known for helping cultivate an encouraging team environment, as well as always bringing the snacks.

Her coaching philosophy centers on helping student-athletes build confidence, maintain perspective and enjoy the game while continuing to grow. Emerson emphasizes preparation, composure under pressure and supporting teammates; always encouraging players to trust their abilities and approach each round with both discipline and enthusiasm.
