Coaching Background: Todd Murphy, Going into his 11th year for HPU Club Baseball which plays in the NCBA, National Club Baseball League at the Division I level, is looking to continue the upward success the program has set in the past 10 years. In Murphy’s first year as head coach, 2015-2016, he took the Panthers to a 12-10 overall record and placed third in the conference with a 6-6 record. With a talent pool of 35 players, the team went 9-3 the next fall 2016 development season and showcased a great year in the spring of 2017 with a 16-4 overall record, winning the Panthers first ever conference championship with a conference record of 9-2. Winning the conference title also advanced the HPU Club Baseball team to it’s first ever regional playoff appearance which was held in Columbus, Georgia. The Panthers played their way to a 2nd conference championship and a 2nd trip to Peachtree, Georgia where they were first runner-up in Regional Playoffs, falling 1 game short reaching the Div. II World series in Pittsburg, Kansas. Since then, the Panthers have captured three more conference titles bringing their total to five along with five regional playoff appearances. In 2022, HPU Club Baseball won the Dixie Regional Championship and earned a bid to the College World Series in Butler, PA finishing 5th in the nation! The team has been ranked in the top 20 national poll since 2018.

Murphy has had seven players named to the NCBA All-American team, Chad Thomas (OF), Logan Simmons (RP), Grant Barson (RP), Quinn DeWitt (OF), Brentan Rowe (1B), Griffith Strain III (RP) and Aidan Donahue (RP). Murphy is a big believer in family and having his players feel an at home presence on his teams. Family will do whatever it takes to look out for each other and that has been his staple for his players and coaching staff.
Before High Point University, Murphy coached 10 seasons of high school varsity sports at Northwest Guilford High School located in Guilford County N.C.. While at Northwest, Murphy coached baseball for seven seasons; serving as the jayvee coach his first two seasons with a combined regular season record of 40-0. Murphy led the Vikings to two Greensboro Palomino Easter JV Tournament Championships. He was the first assistant coach from 2006-2012 where he worked primarily with outfielders, infielders and base running.
In addition to coaching baseball at NW Guilford High school, Murphy coached showcase baseball for the Carolina Canes, N.C.
Murphy also coached High School football for Northwest Guilford's varsity unit for 10 seasons as the linebackers coach. Additionally, Murphy facilitated the weight room and was the strength and conditioning coach while winning four conference titles, including a trip to the state semifinals in 2012.
Education & Playing Days: Murphy graduated from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) where he obtained an associates degree in architectural technology in applied science in 1990. He worked as a certified personal trainer and nutrition advisor for 10 years, competed as a bodybuilder for 12 years from 1991-2003.
Murphy played two seasons (1988-1990) of semi-pro baseball for the Winston-Salem Pond Giants in the Carolina League under legendary Coach Nelson Petree. Murphy's primary position was pitcher and third base along with secondary-left field. Coach Petree has since been inducted in the Winston-Salem Baseball Hall of Fame.
A graduate of East Forsyth High School, in Kernersville, N.C., Murphy lettered in three sports (baseball, football, wrestling).

Personal: Murphy says “I love anything sports related, fishing & boating along the NC Coast with family and friends.I try to be a positive role model while helping players with life skills on and off the field. Watching a player develop and grow into a respectful, mature young man is very self gratifying and hope that I had a positive impact on their lives!"
