High Point University Club Sports

The High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports (ICS) program, led by Director of Athletics Dr. Stephen Denny, announced Will Price as its new head coach of men’s basketball program on July 9, 2026. For Price, the opportunity is more than just a coaching position—it's the opportunity to coach in the city where he was born and raised.

Price’s playing career began at T. Wingate Andrews High School, where he became one of the area’s premier players. Price, a four-time All-Conference performer with the Red Raiders, was known for his toughness, leadership and ability to control the game before heading to N.C. Central for collegiate competition. 

His rise to stardom began in 2001 when he captured Conference Player of the Year, Guilford County Player of the Year, runner-up for Winston-Salem Journal Player of the Year and was Second Team All-State. That season, Price earned Most Valuable Player honors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Championship after a 28-point outing in a victory over Kinston High School. As a result of his outstanding sophomore campaign, Price was invited to the prestigious Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis. 

Price continues to hold the record for most single-game points (49, vs. Burlington Cummings) and assists (22, Rockingham High School) at Andrews High School. Those triumphs resulted in Price’s ability to develop at various levels, where he continued to build a reputation as a disciplined, high-IQ competitor. 

His passion on the court evolved into a coaching career where he brought the same intensity and disciplined style that defined his playing time on the hardwoods. Price, a two-time state champion coach, serves the High Point community as a coach for the boys’ basketball and girls’ softball teams at Penn-Griffin School for the Arts.

Price has also been a fixture for 10 seasons with former Wake Forest guard Chris Paul and the NBA All-Star’s widely known CP3 Basketball Academy. Price has worked with the Team CP3 AAU program for Nike’s EYBL circuit. This relationship showcases Price’s credibility and ability to present opportunities for future success at the professional level for High Point’s student-athletes through mentorship and exposure.

Price has earned a reputation for developing athletes with a focus on fundamentals and basketball IQ while building strong relationships rooted in accountability and trust. He has also refined his coaching skills to focus on creating competitive and disciplined team cultures, all characteristics that will play a role in the successes of the HPU ICS program. 

“Will brings a competitive spirit, a teacher’s mindset and a deep understanding of what it means to represent High Point,” said Dr. Denny. “His roots, his relationships and his commitment to developing young men make him the ideal leader for our program.”

He inherits a Panther men’s basketball team that reached the NCCBA Men’s South Atlantic Regional Tournament in Orangeburg, S.C., in March. With his coaching background he will look to continue to elevate the Panthers’ men’s basketball program with a modern approach to the game while focusing on discipline, pride and community.
