THE WEEK IN PHOTOS

The High Point University Club Sports programs put the finishing touches on a highly successful week of action from November 2-9, 2025. 

The Panthers completed a quartet of two-game sweeps in softball, men's purple ice hockey, men's white ice hockey and women's hockey ice hockey. The baseball team also capped off fall action with a 13-2 win in its Breast Cancer Awareness game, while the tennis team made its triumphant return home and earned a 22-19 victory over visiting Davidson in the process on Friday night. 

HPU Club men's basketball was a perfect 3-0 on the week, winning a thrilling buzzer beater against CBA Academy on Wednesday evening. On Sunday, in an NCBBA Conference doubleheader clash with Campbell, the Panthers came away with wins of 86-50 and 67-58. Saturday afternoon, the men's volleyball unit earned a Silver Bracket crown in the UNC Wilmington tournament, taking down UNC Greensboro 'B' and UNC Wilmington 'B' units in 2-0 fashion. 

High Point Club sports also witnessed individual success in both wrestling, where freshman Danica Zenhye earned first place in the James Madison Tournament. The same was true of the running team, which concluded the final meet of the 2025 fall slate in Hershey, Pa., when the Panthers ran in the NIRCA Nationals. 

Luca Urbanic capped off the NIRCA Championship as the top overall finisher for the High Point men's running squad among freshman and sophomores, with a time of 30:03.20 that resulted in a 34th-place finish. The top finisher among the High Point freshmen and sophomore women was Taylor Schaeffer, who crossed the line 56th with a time of 28:13.0.

BASEBALL
After rescheduling its final fall game of the season from October 29th to November 5th, due to inclement weather, the High Point Club baseball team notched a 13-2 win over Elon. The Panthers, who hosted their Breast Cancer Awareness game as part of the contest, ended the fall with back-to-back victories by virtue of a pair of 13-run outings. The Panthers topped double-digit runs in six contests, including a single-game season-high 22-run outing against UNC on September 17th. 

High Point was 9-3 in the fall slate and will host Clemson on February 7th. The doubleheader game will take place at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C., which is the home of the Asheboro Zookeepers. 

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The High Point Club men's basketball team earned a thrilling 75-73 win over CBA Academy on Wednesday evening at Millis Gym. The Panthers came through with the two-point victory on a game-winning shot at the buzzer, resulting in the first win of November. 

The Panthers were 3-0 on the week, following a sweep of Campbell on Sunday afternoon at Millis Gym. High Point earned a decisive 86-50 win in the first game of an NCBBA Conference contest with Campbell. The Panthers followed that with a nine-point win, 67-58, against Campbell in the night cap. 

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY-PURPLE
The men's hockey purple squad laid claim to its 10th win of the season and fourth in a row after a pair of wins on the road in Newark, Delaware over the weekend. The Panthers, coming off a 4-2 win over Wake Forest on October 26th, emerged with a 6-3 win in their fifth road game of the campaign on Friday evening at Delaware. The following evening, against the Blue Hens, High Point equaled its longest winning streak of the season (three games) with a 4-1 decision. 

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY-WHITE
While the men's hockey purple squad was taking care of business on the road in The First State (Delaware), the men's ice hockey white team was hosting Loyola (Md.) in a pair of contests over the weekend. The Panthers' white team, who returned to the ice five-days after posting a 2-1 win at Virginia Tech, scored three unanswered goals on Friday evening in a 6-3 victory at the Greensboro Ice House over Loyola. 

The following afternoon, at the Greensboro Coliseum, High Point moved its winning streak to three with a 6-4 win over the Greyhounds. The win not only established the longest winning stretch of the season, but it also moves the purple team to 5-5 on the slate with a pair of games against Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn., on the horizon. 

ROWING
The High Point Club rowing team took to the road for the third consecutive weekend, this time heading to Augusta, Ga., to compete in the Head of the South event. 

The Panther men posted two 12th-place and one 14th-place finishes, while the women had a 15th-place outing. 

One of the 12th-place performances for High Point came in the men's 8+, led by Noah Craig, where the Panthers posted a time of 21:16.9. The other came in the novice 4+, with Jayden Hisey at the helm, resulting in a time of 25:08.8. Craig also led the Panthers to 14th in the men's 4+, where the Panthers posted a time of 20:55.6. 

The High Point women capped off the 4+ event with a mark of 25:20.4 with Nicole Kellan at the helm. 

RUNNING
The High Point Club running program concluded the final meet of the 2025 fall slate in Hershey, Pa., when the Panthers ran in the NIRCA Nationals. 

High Point's men's team finished 12th of 26 teams in the event, posting a combined time of 31:33.00. The Panthers were just edged out of the Top-10 by Miami (Ohio), which posted a time of 30:56.60 in a 10th-place finish, and Virginia (31:11.80), which closed in 11th. 

Luca Urbanic capped off the NIRCA Championship as the top overall finisher for the High Point men's squad among freshman and sophomores, with a time of 30:03.20 that resulted in a 34th-place finish. His teammate, Brayden Davis, was also successful on the course with a 50th-place outing after crossing the line in 30:21.90. Ethan Tharp followed for the Panthers with a time of 31:03.20, finishing 81st along the way. Teammate Parker King finished off the race in 133rd, marking a time of 32:27.30. 

Also, among the freshman and sophomore competitors for High Point's men's unit were Matteo Higueros and Nicholas Mair. Higueros completed the course in 33:51.50 (182nd), while Mair posted a time of 33:57.00 (186th). Connor Bain pushed through the event and closed 221st overall with a mark of 35:52.50 for the Panthers, in a race that featured 293 finishers among freshman and sophomore competitors. 

Among the upper-class men's competitors (juniors and seniors), Sterling Sharpe was the top overall finisher for the High Point men's squad, crossing the line 40th in a time of 31:04.20. Teammates Kyle Palombizio and Kirk Traenkner, who were 177th and 178th overall, posted times of 35:43.10 and 35:49.60, respectively. A total of 250 men completed the course in the event. 

The top finisher among the High Point freshmen and sophomore women was Taylor Schaeffer, who crossed the line 56th with a time of 28:13.0. Emily Utzinger also had a solid performance, finishing 78th overall with a time of 29:03.90. Angelina Crandell was 150th overall in the race for the Panthers, posting a time of 33:14.00, while Sierra Nichols placed 165th with a mark of 39:17.30. A total of 167 women took part in the freshman and sophomore race. 

Millie Stickler represented the High Point women's junior and senior squad runners with a 124th-place finish after a time of 38:22.10. There was a total of 130 finishers in the women's event. 

SOFTBALL
The High Point Club softball team extended its winning streak to four games, while moving into the No. 1 ranking in Division II Softball national rankings (click here), following a sweep of Campbell on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers had their fourth shutout of the season (8-0) in the opening game of the series and followed with a 13-7 win in game two, completing their third sweep of the season. High Point has outscored its opponents 41-17 during its current four-game streak. 

TENNIS
The High Point Club tennis team made its triumphant return home and earned a 22-19 victory over visiting Davidson in the process on Friday night. With the Homecoming crowd cheering on the Panthers, High Point head coach and 1980 graduate Lane Evans led the Panthers past Davidon by three points. 

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The High Point Club men's volleyball team rebounded from a tough start to earn the Silver Bracket crown in a tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. 

High Point opened the day-long event with a 2-0 win over the East Carolina 'B' squad, but dropped back-to-back clashes against N.C. State and UNC Greensboro 'A' units by 2-0 scores. 

However, the Panthers received the No. 1 seeding in the Silver Bracket, along with a first round bye. Taking advantage of the chance to rest, High Point took down the UNC Greensboro 'B' and UNC Wilmington 'B' units in 2-0 fashion, completing their Silver Bracket championship run. 

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
A two-day stint in the Peach State was the remedy for the High Point Club women's ice hockey's recent offensive woes. The Panther women allowed just one goal in a late evening clash with Georgia, as they claimed their seventh win of the season by a 4-1 margin at the Akins Ford Arena. The following morning, High Point made a quick turnaround and netted five goals in a 5-3 triumph over the Bulldogs, completing the two-game sweep and moving their overall record to 8-2 on the season. 

WRESTLING
Freshman Danica Zenhye highlighted a solid performance by the HPU Club grappling team, earning first place in the James Madison Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va.
