TEE TIMES | National Qualifier Tournament
High Point University Intercollegiate Club Golf Head Coach Matt Jenkins has been busy securing new courses for the team to practice on. While developing new procedures to grow the team and continue building a highly competitive program, HPU competes with the best and is currently ranked 21st nationally. The team travels with their top eight students and for many tournaments a second team to allow as many players as possible to compete. For those who are able to make the team but may not have the scores to travel, the opportunities continue. Courses around the Triad area welcome members of our golf team to practice and host intersquad tournaments. These tournaments carry large prizes and help determine the travel rosters.
Golf courses in North Carolina are abundant and Coach Jenkins has secured some of the best for the High Point Intercollegiate Club Golf team. High Point Intercollegiate ClubGolf has the privilege of playing on many Ellis Maple golf courses. Ellis Maple's name carries a long history of creating pristine courses around the United States, being named the president of American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1973. Each course that carries the Ellis Maple name carries a prestige and difficulty sure to challenge golfers. High Point has the privilege of playing three Ellis Maple courses for practice rounds: Tanglewood, Reynolds Park and Blair Park. The members of the High Point travel team also have the privilege of playing Forest Oaks, a PGA caliber course which has hosted the Wyndham Open and Sapona Country Club.
Under Coach Jenkins, High Point Intercollegiate Club Golf has been carried to new levels, reaching all time highs in participants and gaining access to some of the most premier courses around. High Point recently hosted a tournament at Bermuda Run Country Club. If you are interested in watching the team compete or seeing how they stack up against competition across the South.Â
The Panthers are returning to the links for the second time in as many weekends and will look to claim their seventh top five finish of the season in the National Qualifier Tournament in nearby Greensboro at the Grandover Resort.Â
With all the growth the program has seen in the last few years; the question is, where do you fit in the future of HPU golf?Â
