HPU Intercollegiate Club Sports Recap | January 4-11, 2026

The High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports program returned to action with a highly successful week on January 4-11, 2026.

The Panthers' men's ice hockey purple team claimed two wins against Virginia Tech on the road, including a 5-4 win in overtime on Friday, January 9th. High Point followed that victory up with a 5-2 win over the Hokies on Saturday evening, extending its winning streak to five games as the Panthers improved to 15-6 overall.

The two road wins improve High Point's purple squad to 8-1 on the road in 2025-26. The Panthers began their winning streak with a 6-0 win over Rider on November 16th and since then have taken down Liberty (5-4), Richmond (9-0) and Virginia Tech in back-to-back contests. High Point returns home to host West Virginia this weekend at the Greensboro Ice House on Saturday (5:45 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.).

The High Point men's volleyball team also enjoyed success on the court this weekend as it claimed six victories as part of a day-long tournament at the Millis Center. Divided into a purple and white squad, both teams reached the semifinals of the playoff bracket.

The High Point White squad posted wins over Elon 'A' (2-0 / 25-17, 25-20) and Elon 'B' (2-0 / 25-22, 25-21) to go along with three ties. The three ties came in clashes with Old Dominion, Elon 'B' and Western Carolina.

Meanwhile, the High Point Purple team delivered four wins as it too reached the semifinals of the tournament playoffs. The purple unit took two set wins over Elon 'B' (25-15, 25-17), Old Dominion (25-21, 25-23), Western Carolina (25-16, 25-19) as well as a 25-11, 25-15 win over their teammates from the High Point white squad.

The Intercollegiate Club Sports program concluded its return to action with a 99-91 triumph over Lees-McRae in men's basketball action. The Panthers moved to 6-3 on the season with the eight-point victory and maintained a perfect record (5-0) at home. High Point will now host Triad rival N.C. A&T on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Millis Center before concluding the week at Elon on Saturday at 11 a.m.
