HPU Club Sports Recap | February 1-8, 2026

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports program concluded the week of February 1-8 with some outstanding wins over the course of the weekend.

Those defining victories came from the men's basketball team, women's ice hockey unit, women's lacrosse team (which came through with two wins) along with the running program, which placed 3rd of 47 teams in a relay event in the elements. 

The following is a breakdown of each team's events during the week:

Men's Basketball

High Point University's Club men's basketball team stretched its winning streak to five games on Saturday afternoon with an 81-74 win over Columbia International. The Panthers have won eight of their 11 games at Millis Gym this season and are riding their longest winning streak of the campaign. The streak began with a 65-64 win over Elon on January 17th and consists of two wins over the Phoenix as well as Carolina University and Montreat. 

Women's Basketball

The Panthers' Club women's basketball team returned to Millis Gym for the first time since facing Elon and suffered a 52-36 setback to visiting Charlotte on Saturday afternoon. High Point University returns to the hardwoods on February 17th and will face Triad rival UNC Greensboro. 

Men's Ice Hockey (D2) Purple

The Panthers put their seven-game winning streak on the line against Virginia Tech in the opening round of the ACCHL Playoffs, held at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, against Virginia Tech. 

The Hokies handed High Point a 7-2 loss in the opening round of the tournament on Friday afternoon. High Point will now turn its attention to a two-game series with Alabama, set for February 13-14th in Pelham, Ala., at the Pelham Civic Center. 

Women's Ice Hockey

The Panthers' women's hockey program added its 13th win of the season with a 4-0 shutout of Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at the First Horizon Coliseum. It marked the fifth shutout of the season for the Panthers, who opened the slate with back-to-back shutouts of Georgia Southern by scores of 17-0 and 18-0. The third came on October 18th against West Chester (Pa.), 8-0, before a 12-0 decision in the ACCHL Fall Tournament against George Washington on November 23rd. 

Men's Ice Hockey (D3) White

Making their second trip to Alabama in the last two years, the men's ice hockey D3 white team dropped a pair of games to the Crimson Tide over the weekend. The Panthers suffered a 3-2 setback in the first game and returned to the ice on Saturday afternoon, but Alabama prevailed by a 5-2 margin. 

Women's Lacrosse

With a 3-3 mark heading into the weekend, the High Point University Club women's lacrosse team battled both the elements and tough competition from Wake Forest and East Carolina to emerge with a pair of wins. 

High Point claimed its first win on Sunday in 8-4 fashion over Wake Forest and followed that with an overtime victory, 7-6, over East Carolina at Congdon Field. 

Running

The running team made its return for the first time since taking part in the NIRCA Nationals on November 8, 2025, taking part in the Camel City Distance event at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. 

Connor Bain represented the Panthers in the men's 1000 meter run, finishing 20th with a time of 3:13.98. Teammate Luca Urbanic competed in the men's 3000 meter run and crossed the line 37th in a time of 9:14.68 and was one of 49 competitors in the event. 

Brayden Davis raced in the men's one mile event, breaking the tape in 4:29.38, where he finished 53rd overall. Davis raced against 96 other competitors in the race. 

The Panthers running team also braved the elements on Sunday afternoon, racing in 18-degree weather, and finished 3rd of 47 teams at the Valentine's Heartbreaker Marathon in Greensboro, N.C. High Point posted a time of 3:19:55.65 in the race in a 5-8 person relay. Among the members of the running team that made up the relay were Kirk Traenkner, Taylor Schaeffer, Lily Maegerle and Angelina Crandall.  

Men's Soccer (White)

The men's soccer white program remains in search of its first win of the season after a 6-0 setback at Duke. The Panthers return to the pitch on March 21st against South Carolina. 


Tennis

High Point Club tennis head coach Bret WIlliams made his debut at the helm, but the Panthers fell to Wake Forest by an 8-1 score on Sunday afternoon.
