Tuccinardi Named MVP as Panthers Win Third ACCHL Crown

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – The High Point University Intercollegiate Club Sports' women's hockey team captured its third consecutive ACCHL Championship on Sunday, February 22nd, following a 5-4 victory over Virginia Tech in Springfield, Va.

The Panthers coincidentally extended their winning streak to five games, following wins over Georgetown (10-2) and the Hokies as they brought home the Commodore Cup. High Point has outscored its last five opponents 32-13.

Paige Tuccinardi, who was named Most Valuable Player of the ACCHL Championship, played a key role in helping the Panthers win both the fall and spring ACCHL tournaments. Tuccinardi's teammate, Emmerson Marengi, earned Forward of the Year honor from the ACCHL.

High Point established a 2-1 lead after the close of the first period, finishing with a 16-9 advantage in shots on goal.

The Panthers doubled their lead to two, 4-2, at the close of the second period.

Virginia Tech pulled their goalkeeper, putting an extra offensive threat on the ice in the third with just under two minutes remaining to slice the lead to 5-4. However, the Panthers amped up their defense and capitalized on 44 shots (32 shots on goal) to complete the trifecta.

The Panthers, who are 17-4-0 on the season turn their attention to the AAU College Hockey National Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. The tournament starts on March 7th at the Community First Igloo.
